Our new Hedgehogs and Squirrels have spent the first few weeks in school learning about the routines of the day.  They have adapted to these routines brilliantly and are now able to tell us when we get our timetable wrong!  They have taken lunchtimes in their stride and are now enjoying time on the big playground with the Key Stage 1 children.

We are absolutely thrilled that more than half the cohort have achieved their ’25 nights’ reading certificates.  Most of the children are enjoying books with words as they have learnt the characters from the Oxford Reading Tree.  Thank you for your support at home and enabling your children to become “Racing Readers”.  We would also like to thank you for your contributions to our “Words of the Week”.  The children are enjoying discovering the meaning of new words.

In Year R we follow the children’s interests.  This half-term they have been teachers, witches, dinosaurs and police officers.  Through these interests, we have exposed the children to scientific concepts, literacy, maths, as well as enabling them to develop personally, socially and emotionally.  We look forward to where their learning takes us next.

In Phonics we have begun the Letters and Sounds programme.  The children have learnt 12 new letters and sounds and are beginning to segment and blend them into words.  Should you wish to support your child with this at home, please refer to the weekly letters which give you a Phonics update.

Our Number of the Day has taken us to 20.  The children have begun to 1:1 count to 20 and record numbers using the rhymes to aid number formation.  We have introduced them to the concepts of tallying and counting on.

In Sparkle Time we have touched on the concepts of questioning and storytelling.  Each Sparkle Group became authors and created their own story which they performed beautifully for the rest of the children.  We also continue to develop the children’s gross and fine motor skills through Squiggle Whilst You Wiggle, Dough Gym, Smart Moves and team games.

Thank you to those of you who were able to attend Parents’ Meetings.  Should you have any concerns about your child, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.

We are so proud of the children and how well they have settled into school life. Thank you very much to you all for the support you have given us this half-term.
